Pamela J. Kirby, Ph.D. - Board of Directors, Chairman of the Board
Dr. Pamela Kirby is the Chairman of the Board for SCYNEXIS, Inc. She brings over 25 years experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Most recently, Dr. Kirby was the Chief Executive Officer of Quintiles Transnational Corporation, a provider of integrated product development and commercial solutions to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Dr. Kirby is currently a non-executive Director of Smith and Nephew plc, Novo Nordisk A/S and Informa plc. Dr. Kirby began her career at Astra AB (now AstraZeneca), rising through several senior management positions before becoming Managing Director of the UK and Ireland subsidiaries in 1988 and being named Vice President, Corporate Strategy, Marketing and Business Development, in 1994. From there, she became Commercial Director at British Biotech plc (now Vernalis) and then Director of Global Strategic Marketing and Business Development in the pharmaceutical division of Hoffman-La Roche Ltd. She has a BSc in pharmacology and a Ph.D. in clinical pharmacology.
Ed Penhoet, Ph.D. - Board of Directors
Ed Penhoet is a director of Alta Partners which he joined in 2000. Dr. Penhoet is the president of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation's Science and Higher Education Programs. He is also the vice chairman of the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee, an organization created to oversee the California stem cell research initiative. Prior to joining Alta Partners, Ed was a co-founder of Chiron Corporation, where he served as president and chief executive officer from 1992 to 1998. For 10 years prior to founding Chiron, he was a faculty member of the Biochemistry Department of the University of California, Berkeley. He is the immediate past dean of the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, sits on the board of Kaiser Permanente, and has co-authored more than 50 scientific articles and papers. Dr. Penhoet earned his A.B. in Biology from Stanford University in 1963 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Washington in 1968. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, San Diego, from 1968 to 1970.
Patrick J. Langlois, Ph.D. - Board of Directors
Mr. Patrick Langlois is the General Partner of PJL Conseils, a consulting firm, since March 1st, 2005. He served as Vice Chairman of Aventis’ Management Board and Chief Financial Officer from May 2002 to September 2004 and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Aventis S.A. from December 1999 to May 2002. At Aventis, Patrick Langlois was responsible for finance and corporate development functions as well as three global businesses: chemicals, protein therapeutics and animal health. Prior to joining Aventis, he was employed by the Rhône-Poulenc Group from 1975 to 1999, most recently as Chief Financial Officer and Member of the Executive Committee. Patrick Langlois received a License degree from the University of Rennes in 1967, a Ph.D. degree in Economics from the University of Rennes and was awarded a Diploma in Higher Banking Studies.
Jean-Yves Nothias, Ph.D. - Board of Directors
Jean-Yves Nothias is a managing director of SG Asset Management Alternative Investments (“SGAM”), where he leads the Biotechnology Team. Since joining SGAM in 2000, Nothias has built a team of professionals managing a global portfolio of 36 biotechnology companies. Previously, he was a biotechnology analyst for Hambrecht & Quist based in Paris and then for Oddo & Cie. Nothias is on the surveillance board of two French biotech companies, Cytomics Systems and Biosystems. Dr. Nothias holds a thesis in Molecular Biology from Université Paris VI and a master's degree in management from Université Paris Sorbonne. As a scientist, he worked at several research institutions in France and in the United States. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in Nutley, N.J., from 1993 until 1995.
Laurent Arthaud - Board of Directors
Laurent Arthaud is currently a general partner with CDC Entreprises, a fund to fund capital firm based in Paris. Previously he was managing partner with Pharmavent Partners, also headquartered in Paris, and prior to Pharmavent Mr. Arthaud was in charge of the venture capital activities of the pharmaceutical leader Aventis and managed the venture capital fund Genavent. Mr. Arthaud started his career in 1986 at the INSEE (French Economic Statistics Institute), and then at the Forecasts Department of the French Ministry of Finances. In 1995, he joined the cabinet of French Prime Minister Alain Juppé as Technical Advisor in charge of workforce and unemployment matters. He joined Rhône-Poulenc in 1997 as Scientific Board General Secretary and was appointed to his present position following the creation of Aventis in 1999 from the merger of Rhone-Poulenc and Hoechst. Mr. Arthaud is a graduate from the "Ecole Polytechnique" of Paris and from the "Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Economique".
Ann F. Hanham, Ph.D. – Board of Directors
Prior to joining Burrill & Company, Ann Hanham was a co-founder and Vice President of Clinical & Regulatory Affairs at InterMune Pharmaceuticals, and prior to that, the Senior Director for Oncology Product Development at Otsuka Pharmaceuticals and the Medical Director for Celtrix Pharmaceuticals. She has also worked for Becton Dickinson in both regulatory and clinical affairs for the monoclonal antibody program, and as a regulatory toxicologist with the Health Protection Branch of Health and Welfare Canada.
Dr. Hanham holds a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, an MSc from Simon Fraser University, and a BSc from the University of Toronto. She was also Board Certified in Toxicology in 1986. She currently is a member of the Board of Directors of Adlyfe, BioTie, Cardiokine (observer), Endocyte, Logical Therapeutics, SCYNEXIS, and Waterstone.
Horace D. Nalle – Board of Directors
Horace (Hod) Nalle is General Counsel and Company Secretary of Merial Limited, the leading animal health company. He is a member of the Merial Leadership Team and also supervises Merial Communications and Public Affairs. Previously, he was President of the Merial Poultry Genetics Global Enterprise, which included Hubbard Farms, British United Turkeys, and ISA; the sale of the enterprise was concluded in 2005. Hod also previously headed up Merial Regulatory Affairs and the Merial Blue Sky research program.
A graduate of Harvard College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Hod began his career at the law firm of Drinker Biddle & Reath in Philadelphia. In 1991 he joined the legal department of Merck & Co., Inc., where he later served as counsel to Merck AgVet, which marketed Merck's crop protection and animal health products.
Hod assisted in the divestiture of Merck’s crop protection business and in the creation of Merial in 1997, and was named Merial’s general counsel. He served at the Company’s London headquarters until 2002, when the operational headquarters were relocated to Duluth, Georgia.
Hod has been admitted to various U.S. state and federal courts and is a member of the Pennsylvania bar. He serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Atlanta Humane Society.
Yves J. Ribeill, Ph.D. - President and Chief Executive Officer
Prior to organizing SCYNEXIS, Inc. in 2000, Dr. Yves Ribeill held various positions during a 20-year international pharmaceutical career with Aventis and its predecessor Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. His roles with those companies included Discovery Chemistry Group leader for Anti-Viral Research and later in the Central Nervous System Group in France. He later served as Director of Chemistry for the Anti-Infective Group. He was involved in all phases of the drug discovery and development effort that resulted in the FDA approval of the anti-bacterial Synercid in 1999. Dr. Ribeill is the author of more than 26 publications and 15 patents. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the World Health Organization. Ribeill has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Montpellier in France.
