RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC (May 24, 2010) - Drug discovery and development company SCYNEXIS on Thursday will lead a discussion with local global health organizations and the general public about the company's use of its proprietary SaaS platform system to help researchers in the development of new therapies for so-called neglected diseases in the developing world. The breakfast presentation to members of the Triangle Global Health Consortium will be Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. SCYNEXIS' HEOS® System is a web-based drug research information software that allows researchers dispersed around the world to collaborate in the collection of data for discovery of drugs for treatment of tropical disease such as malaria, sleeping sickness, leashmaniasis and other neglected diseases. SCYNEXIS is currently working with organizations such as Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV), Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) and the WHO Tropical Diseases Research organization in efforts to develop therapies for global diseases that often have been overlooked in development of drugs by global pharmaceutical companies. Leading the discussion of the SCYNEXIS system will be Frederic Bost who is director of Information Systems for the company where he is responsible for the creation and maintenance of HEOS® and other software solutions. Many different public and private organizations around the globe are collaborating on neglected diseases, requiring a secure, multi-organization data-management solution that facilities collaboration. The discussion will review solutions offered by Software as a Service (SaaS) web-based platforms such as HEOS®. "The complex process of transforming a "hit" into a clinical drug candidate involves data generated by a broad range of sources and our HEOS® system has proven very effective in the capture, storage and analysis of research data by geographically dispersed researchers working on treatments for neglected diseases," said Bost.
