MERCK, SCYNEXIS Announce Broadening Of Research Collaboration For Discovery Of Novel Anti-Infective Agents RAHWAY, New Jersey and RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, North Carolina (July 16, 2003) - Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MRK) and SCYNEXIS, Inc. announced today that they have broadened the scope and extended the term of their multi-year research collaboration, which was initiated last year, to discover and develop novel anti-infective compounds. SCYNEXIS will utilize its proprietary MEDCHEM-FACTORY® and HEOS™ technologies, to help accelerate the identification of novel drugs active against Merck's screening targets. This will be accomplished by producing large, highly targeted, high-purity compound libraries that use rapid lead optimization to develop candidates for clinical evaluation. Merck will receive exclusive worldwide rights to any products developed through the collaboration. SCYNEXIS will receive milestone payments if products are developed and royalties on sales of any commercialized products resulting from the collaboration. Other financial terms of the collaboration were not disclosed.
