About Cyclophilins

Print page

SCYNEXIS is leading the development of a novel class of compounds called cyclophilin inhibitors. Cyclophilins are a family of enzymes that assist in the folding and transportation of other proteins synthesized within a cell. Protein folding or misfolding plays a central role in the pathophysiology of a number of serious diseases, such as viral diseases, central nervous system disorders, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

SCYNEXIS has built a robust intellectual property estate and significant scientific expertise around cyclophilin inhibitors. In addition, SCYNEXIS has published and presented extensively at scientific forums and built impressive biological and biochemical screening capabilities to explore all potential applications.

The Company’s lead drug candidate, SCY-635, has successfully completed Phase 1b proof-of-concept studies in patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and is currently in Phase 2 clinical testing. In addition, the Company is advancing earlier stage candidates in ophthalmology and other therapeutic areas.
