SCY-247: A next-generation antifungal
targeting resistant and invasive fungal infections

Fungerps: A Differentiated Class of Antifungals

In the fight against life-threatening fungal infections, pathogens continue to evolve and develop resistance. From a broad portfolio of triterpenoid antifungal candidates, SCYNEXIS selected SCY-247 for its potent antifungal activity, favorable tissue distribution, and retained activity against many resistant strains.

Understanding Life-Threatening Fungal Infections

Invasive fungal infections such as candidiasis and aspergillosis can be serious and life-threatening, particularly in vulnerable and hospitalized patients. Drug resistance and limited treatment options continue to create significant challenges. Learn more about these infections, their impact, and the need for new treatment approaches

SCY-247 : Antifungal Therapy with Phase 1 Oral Complete and IV Topline Data Expected in Q3 2026

SCY-247 is a second-generation antifungal triterpenoid under clinical development for the treatment and prevention of invasive fungal infections, designed to combine broad-spectrum activity with the tolerability and tissue penetration required for serious systemic disease. It has received Qualified Infectious Disease Product and Fast Track designations from the FDA, and Phase 1 evaluation of the intravenous formulation began in February 2026.

This project has been funded in whole or in part with federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR); Center for the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), under contract number 75A50126C00007.

SCY-247 Key attributes

How are the fungerps different?

Fungerps are a novel class of antifungals that leverage the clinically validated fungal cell wall target of echinocandins while offering a distinct structural profile. This differentiation supports activity against many resistant fungal strains, broad tissue penetration, flexible oral and IV administration, a favorable safety profile, and low potential for drug-drug interactions, providing a versatile approach to the treatment of serious fungal infections.

Ibrexafungerp:

Ibrexafungerp was the first representative of a novel class of structurally-distinct glucan synthase inhibitors, triterpenoids.

Ibrexafungerp has been licensed to GSK.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved BREXAFEMME® (ibrexafungerp tablets) in June 2021, for its first indication in vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), followed by a second indication in November 2022, for reduction in the incidence of recurrent VVC.
